Redressed the entire first floor, redressed the basement, and ran an on-site set build at our location. Main themes were nestled around the contrast, and the eventual collision, between wealth and poverty.
Concepts
The plan was to redress a single home with a yard and detached garage to be two separate environments for our characters. Donnie, the rich kid, is a spoiled brat. So, as a character who is a caricature of wealth, Donnie's environment was to reflect the themes of his character. The environment of the poor kid, Charlie, was to reflect the proletariat class by exhibiting poverty and struggle - but as a character who is also talented, Charlie's props were designed to convey discipline and a reverence for the arts.
Draft
Each 6 flats of the poor kid set were custom built with 2x4's to support the extra weight of the heavy plywood facings and to lean against the location's garage without warping.
Execution
Faux flowers planted in front of a brick house alludes to Donnie's insincere opulence, while the mud that Charlie's hand-made home sits on alludes to themes of the working-class struggle.
