Production Design Summary

Each set was designed to be both a setting for the characters, but also as extensions of this television studio world in which our main character, Eddie, struggles to maintain control. Eddie's TV Talk Show set is where he attempts to control the at-home audience and his in-studio guests to be willingly a part of this immoral interrogation he calls an interview. The Hallway set is where Eddie tries to control his employees. The Dressing Room set is where Eddie is now away from public view and feels safe enough, in his privacy, to lose control and cave to his vices.

Concepts

Warm colors were used in the Talk Show Stage Set so that Eddie's set feels welcoming both to his guests and the at-home audience. The Hallway set was based off of my school's existing stage colors, so the plan here was to use already available film equipment as mise-en-scene to 1. add authenticity to our story, and 2. minimize production purchasing costs. Eddie's Dressing Room set was on the cooler side of the color palette to convey how, although this space is where Eddie's body produces the most dopamine, his past traumas and current vices have left him a cold and broken individual.

Models

Stage was designed to use as little flats as possible to minimize set-up and tear-down time. Dressing Room included a wall outside the door to imply a continuous hallway into the dressing room. The bare backsides of each set were used to create the corridor for the Hallway set. The most ambitious set pieces were the light columns, but I am now aware that tracing paper can work as a proper light diffuser as long as you attach it with double-sided tape.

Execution

​Set decorators and props crew did a fantastic job keeping the smaller set pieces within the era of the late 1990's to the early 2000's. Lighting played a major role in keeping the themes of the warmer TV Talk Show colors juxtaposed to the coolness of the Dressing Room.
